I recently built an Arts and Crafts micalampshade of wood. Following the instructions for the panels and required angle of cuts, etc, the shade turned out great. That got me thinnking of trying my hand at a shade with a different slope, possibly 6, or 8 sided. Is there a standard chart to go by for the calculation of these compound angles necessary to accomplish this task, or do I need to proceed with some difficult trial and (T)ERROR? Thank you very much

Try woodbin.com, it's a web site for all sorts of woodworking calculators. If that doesn't turn up what you need, then your best resource would probably be pre WWII books written for fancy trim carpenters and possibly a book on sheet metal layout or technical drawing.
If you can't find what you need, get back to me and I'll look through my library to give you some specific titles to track down.

Thanks John, I'll try the woodbin. I found a neat chart at Better Woodworking Guide and Directory (betterwoodworking.com) for 4 thru 12 sides at various slopes. I've never been great at math and this chart leaves me a little frustrated with myself, but I guess I'll just have to dive in and start cutting on some scraps and see what I come up with. Thanks again for the reply.
