Want to protect a school emblem that is painted on a wood floor. The emblem does have a frame around it to hopeful keep the kids from walking on it. Any suggestions of what to apply? Thought about Poly but worried about it giving a yellow tent. Paint is white background with green and black emblem.
Any suggestions? Not sure if paint is water based or oil.

Water-based polyurethane has essentially no yellowish tint, so that should work for the color, and is durable enough to take foot traffic. It also shouldn't harm the paint in the existing emblem, but you'll want to test some inconspicuous spots first to make sure. And if the emblem is freshly painted, you'll want to wait a few weeks before overcoating it.
If you do find that the polyurethane lifts the paint, you can first apply a barrier coat of blonde shellac (Zinsser Sealcoat--available at your local hardware store or home center). The shellac does have a slight yellowish tint, but a single coat shouldn't be too noticeable. (Of course, you need to test the shellac to make sure that it doesn't hurt the paint, too, but that would be unusual, as the only solvent in shellac is alcohol.)
