My lunatic son , a budding artist, apparently got carried away the other day and colored a few spots on his bed with some of those kid markers that you can supposedly clean up with water. The bed is just pine with oil based poly. I wiped it with a damp cloth, and some of the marker came of, but not all of it. Any tips on how to clean this without damaging the poly?
Thanks!

You can try mineral spirits or maybe even Goof-off.
*Thanks for the reply. I've no clue what Goof-Off is, but it sounds like something I could use :)Mineral spirits wouldn't take off the poly?
*John,Actually, Goof Off is used mainly for removing contact cement when using a laminate for counter tops, it will eat right through the finish; very potent stuff and worth having around just be sure you don't get it near an open flame of any kind. I'd try a little watered down Windex before I'd use mineral spirits or even Murphey's Oil Soap...Kinda surprised that soap and water didn't work. How long ago was this finish applied?Dano
*Dano,I finished the bed several months ago. I will try the Windex when I get home.I should probably mention that I don't know for certain when the ink got on the bed, just when I discovered it. Is it possible that the ink has bled through the poly?ThanksAndrew
*Andrew?Well, I suppose it's possible. I'm sitting hear scratching my head trying to remember that last time I had to deal with this problem. Manufacturer and number of coats enter into the equation as well. I want to make it clear that I'm not 100% certain on the Windex, so if you try that before the Murphey's do so in an inconspicuous spot. If you tell me more, maybe I can duplicate the problem and provide you with a better answer.Dano
*Dano - I haven't actually tried Murpheys, just plain water. Upon reflection, I suppose that should have been a fairly obvious place to start. Sometimes I think that the younguns have stolen what little brainjuice I ever had. I will give that a shot when I get home.(Oh, yes. My name is Andrew. The johnyaya thing is just the name I generally use on bulletin boards. People here seem to be generally pleasant enough that I could use my real name, but I am far too lazy to set up a new account.)
*Try Methanol or isopropal alcohol (rubbing alcohol).Jim
