does anyone know of a clamp that can be used to clamp crown moulding together at 45 or 90 degrees?

Chucky, try this link to Collins tool.

They make miter clamps that I use to glue mouldings together...they work very well.

Hey, why don't ya try power grip construction adhesive by Loctite. This is hearsay from Breaktime but I hear it grabs quick and you could air nail it..no clamps needed.
I have a crown job coming up and am trying to get my hands on some. ..even if I have to mail order it. I'm using PL premium poly caulk right now...strong like borsch but so is clean-up.
Power grab is water based, greener...cheap like borsch...I'd spend 4. bucks on this stuff, test it on scrap and save the bones on the clamps for some premium beer.

Take a 2" spring clamp, remove the plastic tips. Bend each tip outward so that when done, the two tips form a 90° angle. Drill and install two panhead pointed screws ( type used for metal studs) in each tip. Just squeeze the clamp open, hold crown and clamp. Works on base or any molding.

Another vote for Collins miter clamps. They are quite reasonably priced and they work no matter what glue you use. You will find other uses for them too.

thanks, ordered a set today.Let you know what happens.
Chucky,
I didn't mention it but I hope you ordered the pliers. Gee, I'm not used to people taking my advice. :-)

I do a lot of kitchen installs with pre-finished crown molding. The spring style clamps I have, come with suction cups to prevent the sharp tips from marking the molding. They don't work. The spring type clamps also have a tendency to make the joint slide. I prefer to use electricians tape. It stretches and helps to pull the joint tight without applying too much force. I use long 12" or so lengths. I also squirt the back side with hot melt glue, which helps to hold the joint from moving. Adding glue blocks behind, when possible, adds strength.
Beat it to fit / Paint it to match
Thanks hammer,I'll try that
