huh?
Doesn't WOODCENTRAL run this sort of thing? I seem to recall they will set up an expert and a time, and anyone can ask questions and go back and forth -- kind of like instant messaging.
Don't know though -- have never tried it.
I've read some of the transcripts of the chat sessions on woodcentral and it seems like a waste of time to me. For all the effort expended very little useful information is gathered and it appears to be very incomplete as well.
Rick, that's been my experience with chatrooms too. They tend to move too fast and all you get are one sentence responses that don't really help much. I think the forum format is a better way to convey information. A forum is really just a slow motion chat anyway...and it makes possible more thorough answers.

I got in a chat-room one night that ToolDoc set up at Wood Central. Dennis from Bellevue, Forest Girl, Doc and myself. A few others joined in. By the time I could read, comprehend and type a reply the entire subject had changed and I didn't even notice. After 45 minutes of attempting to stay tuned to the current thought, I logged off; took two Goodies Headache Powders and went to bed. ha... ha....

I like the one at http://www.woodworking.org good people nice considerate. They do talk about alot of things non wood related but if you have a question they will answer it thouroghly. They have a Canadian chat on tues @ 6 pm pst and a regular chat on wensday at 6 pst. But anyone can participate in any of the chats. They were starting a thurdays night chat also but dont know how that one is anymore been to busy to participate.
Mostly its hobbiest but does have some very experianced well respected pros show up. Danny Proulx comes every now and then. Nice guy has some great books hes published. I just order 2 of his yesterday.

May drop over to ease-drop. I don't like to participate for the reasons I posted to Jon, but it is fun. I can think a mile a minute, but my typing skills can keep up with that pace and I usually end up in "lost and found". ha.. ha...

Yes, WoodCentral has a chatroom that is open any time.
They have some interesting guests as well, Michael Dunbar, Andy Rae, Roy Underhill, Frank Klauz to name a few.
