Greetings:
I just built an outdoor chair using cedar. I really like the look of the wood, not to mention the smell! I’m not planning on staining or painting it. The chair will most likely end up on my deck, fully exposed to the elements.
To preserve/protect, do I need to put a topcoat of finish on this chair? If so, what kind of finish do you recommend? How many applications, etc.?
I’m a rookie at this sort of thing, so I appreciate your wisdom and experience!
Thanks.

if you are thinking that a coating will protect it more..dont. Cedar will be fine by itself

I've had good luck with a Sherwin Williams product called Deckscapes. I use the oil-based "Natural" with no tint. It will help keep that original "cedar" color. Not too expensive $20.00 gallon in St. Louis. I saw a New Yankee show where he claims a product called "Sikkens" works well, although I've never tried it. If possible post some pix when your finished.
Good Luck.
