Reading the posts about the water ring leads me to ask if anyone has had experience with a cat ruining the finish of a table. We have very old pedestal table with original finish (i don’t know what) and the family cat thinks it’s his private perch. Apparently some enzyme? or whatever has a reaction with this finish such that his tracks are permanently in the finish. My wife has tried oils & cleaners with no success. Any suggestions would be most welcome. Thanks!!

I have taken them out with https://shop.guardsman.com/store/detail/product_detail_theme_6/?product_id=6042
If it is water marks, it will remove them. If it's something deeper, it has a very fine abrasive that will remove surface damage. You may increase the gloss level, so you either need to do the whole top, back up to a coarser abrasive (0000 steel wool, polishing compound, etc.) or spray with a flatter top coat (if it's factory furniture, it's most likely lacquer, so spray a lower sheen aerosol lacquer).
Thanks - we'll give it a try!
