Carbide Knives Source for DJ20 Jointer
I want to upgrade my DJ20 knives from HSS to carbide. Is there a best source for these carbide knives or are all of the suppliers just selling the same product?
Thanks.

Different sources, different products. Check with http://www.cggschmidt.com http://www.ridgecarbidetool.com http://www.globaltooling.com and others at http://www.woodcentral.com/links/tooling.shtml
You sure you need carbide? Unless going with a spiral head, HSS is the choice of commercial shops unless doing teak or epoxy glue ups. If you go with carbide get the carbide brazed to a steel backer. Carbide is very brittle and the knife wiill shatter it it hits metal or an imbedded stone.

Catalog Part# PK-413-08-CT $104.00 for the set of 3 blades.
HSS blades are 28.50 by the way.
I would go with the Byrd Shelix for the DJ-20. The cutters are carbide and it cuts like a dream. The change is fairly easy and you will never have to mess with changing those darn jointer blades again. I have 5 years on one edge and I have three left to rotate to. I agree with the others about carbide jointer knives. Why? If you are looking for less noise, more power, smoother finish and no tear out on figured woods I would change to a Byrd. I did. Now it is a better machine then it was when it was brand new.
