Can anyone tell me how to use the captive ring tools? I’ve made captive rings before with my other tools and thought it would be easier with these specialized tools ( three of them for three different size rings), but I expected some kind of directions and there weren’t any. Now I don’t know how to proceed. The tools are pretty thin and look like they could break easily.
Help, please

which ever comes first
A captive ring is a ring turned on a spindle on the wood lathe. It is formed from the spindle itself. Here is a picture of one and a link to an article on how to turn them. Hope this helps.

The point is to make something that looks impossible, but is not too hard to do. It can be just for the novelty if you do it on a pen for instance. or for practicality if you are making the baby rattle illustrated. As you said "It's cool!"

Never have used them. I have made them a lot of times with just a small skew and a round three point tool and it works just fine.
Yeah, that's the same with me. But I saw these tools in a catalog and wondered how they work. It wouldn't surprise me if there was a better way than I always used, that was a little awkward and time consuming.
Thanks for the reply.
