Can benchtop mortisers be used without the chisels and double as a drill press for certain applications? I have very limited space and don’t have room for 2 heavy machines. I do have room for one.
I find that typically I need help boring into narrow pieces of lumber on edge. I was hoping that a mortiser could fill in for those types of tasks so that maybe I don’t necessarily need a drill press.
Thanks, Wayne

Wayne,
A mortiser can serve as a drill press, although it has some significant limitations. There isn't much room for the stock except on edge and the drilling depth can also be limited.
