For all Emmert experts out there… I just purchased an Emmert K1 Type U4. It was removed from a bench prior to purchase. Everything seems to be there… stanchion, bar, levers, etc. But there is one item that was in the lot that I cannot identify…
It is some sort of retaining collar that has an inclined shoulder and square inner hole. Outside diameter is ~1-3/4″ and the inner square is 1/2″. It looks like some sort of lever lock retainer, but where is it from? All levers are operational and accounted for as far as I can see.
Is this just some detritus from another piece of equipment that got thrown into the lot or does it belong on my Emmert?
Can anyone I.D. this?

Yeah, thanks for that Bruce, but I've been over every Emmert page on the Internet (including The Iron Hand) and just can't identify this piece. It's not in any exploded view, parts list or call out. The vice seems complete without it based on all references I've found. Maybe it was thrown into the lot just to drive me crazy. If so, they've succeeded. ;-)

That's a left-handed grapple-grommet. I need one for my whatchamacallit. Or is it my dohickey?
(I haven't a clue!)

I just spoke will the seller of the vice and he said that when he acquired the vice in the 50's, it had that slope washer 'just hanging from a string' on the rotate lock lever. He thought it was an some extra internal piece, so he kept it and just passed it along when he sold it to me. The consensus is that it doesn't belong to the vice.Obviously it's some sort of good luck talisman, so I'm going to hang it from the lever as well. Gotta respect the tradition, right? Maybe it'll keep the bad wood spirits away. ;-)Extra points to anyone who can accurately identify what tool this cast-iron charm came from.
that looks like a washer for a carriage bolt , to me
Yes, it looks like that from one side, but the other side has a sloped shoulder (for some sort of lock lever) and the bore tapers to the square opening. It's definitely not a simple carriage bolt washer.
