We are selecting pulls for a bath wardrobe and vanity. The space is small so I want the pulls to be as low-profile as possible. The design is contemporary. Does anyone have experience with the Richlieu recessed knob? (link: http://www.richelieu.com/produit/detail.php?no=61642732174) If not, does anyone have experience with Richlieu products in general? I’d also like to know how the finish wears. Finally, I would welcome other hardware manufacturer suggestions.

I'm not familiar with the Richlieu pulls, but here are a couple of other possibilities:
These recessed pulls from Brusso are nice: http://www.leevalley.com/hardware/page.aspx?c=2&p=52495&cat=3,46742,44005,50468. I believe they can now be had in stainless steel as well as brass.
These have sort of a nautical look: http://www.leevalley.com/hardware/page.aspx?c=2&p=55181&cat=3,43520,43521,43559.
There are several other recessed pulls available from Lee Valley. Go to their site and do a search on "recessed" to find them.

i've used the Brusso recessed pulls from lee Valley. They look nice, but if you use self-closing slides (i.e Blummotion), the drawers can be hard to open, especially with wet hands.
I can imagine. Some of those self-closing mechanisms could just about take your fingers off as they close....

Unless everyone is very disciplined about resetting the pulls flush after they are used they will be out all of the time and nothing will be gained.
I would use a hole or slot milled into the face of the doors and drawers. This detail is most commonly done on modern style furniture and can look quite elegant depending on the design.

I put a bevel on the bottom of all drawers and doors and just use fingers to pull. It saved all the costs of hardware and your don't see anything except the door and drawer front. I like the clean look.
Our kitchen has 34 doors and 40 drawers. Even the inexpensive hardware pulls were $3.00. The savings is signifigant.
Rachel,
Whitechapel has several pages of flush pulls in their catalog.
