Veritas Wheel Marking Gauge
A wheel-type gauge is the easiest to use, and this wonderful Veritas model is a steal at $38.

Festool Rotex FEQ-Plus Random Orbital Sander
The Festool Rotex is a top-of-the-line choice. On its coarse setting, it removed stock nearly twice as quickly as the second-fastest model. But that speed doesn’t mean you’ll have to wrestle with it. It’s no huge task to control it with two hands, and its long body gives you plenty of room to find a sweet spot while holding it.

Try Johnson's Workbench in Charlotte. Good selection of thicknesses, though there's a lot of sapwood in the cherry these days.
There's a hardwood place in Ann Arbor, though I haven't been to it.

thanks, I'll check them out
Hello there two dealers I use a lot.
First is
Armstrong mills, in Highland ( on M59) Great people and the best slection of every wood Ive ever seen, Any where! Everything is kiln dried.
The other is B&B heartwoods
5444 Whitmore Lake rd. Ann Arbor.
Much smaller, but thay have a lot of wood, both kiln dried and air dried. Good service and nice people.
Both mills do NOT take credit cards. but will take checks or cash. the service and selection is very good at both places.C.A.G.
Johnson's in Charlotte has the most variety but it is two hour drive frome AA. Armstrong's is a little closer and has excellent quality. B&B in Whitmore Lake is right of 23, but they are high and have very little selection. Call first if you only need a little they probably would be your best bet. Fingerle charges a fortune!
Check out public true value lumber. It is off I-75 and 7mile road in Detroit. It has everything. I mean everything. Quite impressive. They also have a site online to check their prices.
Not ideal neighborhood, don't go after dark.

Thanks for the help guys, I went to Armstrongs. VERY nice people and a good selection.
thanks a lot.
Indeed, I like them the best also. Luckily, I only live a few miles away. Used to drive from Troy and it was worth it. Never knew much about curly walnut, birch or oak till I saw it in their stock.
