I am a big fan of Biesemeyer fences and have not heard very good things about the UHMW plastic covered Accufence that is being shipped with PMs these days. Is it possible to purchase just the PM66 saw with no fence? I would much prefer to go that route. In fact, if not, I’d probably buy a Unisaw.

I have an Accufence. It is great. You can always upgrade later if you don't like it. The rails are identical. Just switch the fence, but that is ridiculous because the Accufence is beefier.
I've heard this before, I've never looked at them side by side. How is it beefier? Both seem to be 2x3 .80 wall steel tubing. I've asked this before, cause I'd like to know.. and got no answer :(
For what it's worth, I have a new PM 66 and the Accufence is dead-on accurate and works amazingly well, imo.

The only component that is beefier is the cam that locks the fence to the guide tube but since the fence is inaccurate it negates this advantage over the Biesemeyer.

Get real. I have a PM66 with an Accufence. It is very accurate. The Plastic sides allow the work to slide, and they are easily replaceable if inadvertantly cut. I se my fence and rip long narrow stock. I measure the width of the cut with a dial indicator along its lenth and there is hardly any diffence in width (less than 0.005") along the entire lenth. If you think the Biesemeyer can do any better, then go for it.
Bottom line: No saw is perfect. However, if accuracy is your concern, forget both fences and get an Incra TSIII.
The Incra TSIII is just a knock off variation of Northfield's fence.

After debate, I bought the X-5 Delta with Biesemeyer and am tickled pink. Got it for $1649 and the dealer threw in the upgraded Delta mortising jig for free. Plus, still get a choice of a mobile stand or a little PC router. Too sweet a deal and I really wanted another Biesemeyer (my third).
Let you know how it all works out.
Fair enough choice. Recently read in the Wood mag. review that there is a major difference between the two fences. The PM has just the cam against the tube with a small bearing surface, whereas the Bessy cams into a bar that locks against a large bearing surface on the tube.
Sorry, I'm not going to argue with anyone about if or what is better or not.

I am very interested in this question also. I would like to buy a cabinet saw without any type of fence system (for a lesser price), and then install a fence system of my choice. I hope someone can tell us if this is possible and if they are aware of this being done before.
I've read more then one review that discussed the potential problems with the plastic fences. BTW, if it's PM, it has to be beefier, even if it's not, it is! ;^)
I'm sure you could special order a saw without the fence, but I'm guessing it would work it better in price to take the fence and sell it new in the box, and then get what you want.

So far Don, thats the most honest answer I've seen ;)
I used to work for a dealer and the best way to do it is to sell the fence that comes with the saw. It was actually more expensive to buy the saw without a fence.
PM66 owner w/ Accufence. Dead on accurate as stated. Good Luck!
John
So is mine.
My experience with the AccuFence was bad. I even called PM and got replacement UHMW faces and that still didn't do the trick. I checked the fence tubing and it was off I can't remeber by how much but it was significant to the point that I couldn't align my fence to the blade. I replaced the AccuFence with a Biesemeyer and I am a convert. The only component that is beefier on the AccuFence is the cam that locks the fence to the guide and that is worthless if the fence is not accurate. I still can't get over the fact that the PM 66 comes with such an inferior fence.
