Hey gang, I actually thought to bring out the camera before I started working on some butterfly inlays yesterday. So I was able to put together a little inlay basics for my blog posting today.

Remembering the camera in advance of starting work is a good thing. 8^)
Nice, Chris. Thanks for sharing.
Nice and simple little tutorial...

Very nice work throughout your site. I especially like the mustache on the guitar.

Looks good, I just made some butterflies I'll be setting in later this week.

Beautiful butterflies. The small curve in the end adds so much elegance. I envy you working with cherry for them. They should compliment it very well. I can't wait to be finished with this table, so I can get to a less coarse grained (and less massive/heavy!) project.I'm getting things assembled to go to work on the next guitar, with some curly moabi for the back and sides.Make sure to post a pic of the inlaid butterflies, unless they flutter off before you get to them.Chrishttp://acornhouse.wordpress.com/

Nice
This is another task I have on my list.
In the past I've used quite big butterfly inserts to stablise incipient cracking, and made it worse. What happened was the cross-grain butterflies stopped the wood moving, and the about-to-be crack became an actual crack!
Has anyone else had this problem, and what's the maximum size likely to be to minimise this risk?

Very nice. What are the woods? Ebony, rosewood, and walnut?Chrishttp://acornhouse.wordpress.com/

Table top is Walnut and butterflies are Ebony & Wenge. So far I like the contrast.Timberwerks Studio Blog

Thanks for the comments, everyone. I know its nothing new, but any info we put out there (as long as it doesn't lead astray) is good info.
