Bosch buys Freud accessory division
Hi Folks,
Just got an email from the competition saying that Bosch has purchased Freuds Accessory Division which includes TS blades, router bits, drill bits and more.
Thought I’d pass it along.

I think they made the deal Dec.18 2008. Last I heard they were waiting for approval from the regulating agencies. Bosch has sure been on a buying spree lately.

I'm a big fan of Freud router bits. Hope they don't compromise the quality. They are excellent bits for the price.

hey bob and don,
when black and decker bought porter cable and dewalt i noticed everyone was saying "there goes what little quality there was..." i have used a number of bosch products. i have their 2, and i believe 1/2, hp plunge router, i like it. do you guys think that this bodes ill for us? i did not know that b&d had bought porter cable. i had, for years used their stuff. four random orbit sanders all went belly up after no more than a couple months reasonable use. i finally gave up on pc also.

I guess I'd have to defer to Don as he has a lot more experience than I. On the surface my gut reaction is that in this case we have two companies that have high quality products so I'm getting good vibes.
Thinking of that new Bosch 12" SCMS sporting a nice Freud blade, Bosch routers and Freud bits, etc. Would be a tough combination to beat. Taking a WA guess but it wouldn't surprise me to find that those Bosch blades/bits are made by Freud.
I've used Freud blades for over 25 years now and have not had a bad experience with them. Got the Freud TK206 TS blade and it's a real pleasure to use. With an accurately set up crosscut sled the cuts are very clean. Mebbe should have been marketed as a combo blade?
The only negative I can say about it is if I push the stock too fast it tends to vibrate a bit; that's my fault though. Never had a Forrest blade though

The direction that Bosch will take with the Freud line of bits and blades is unclear at this point, but one would assume that Bosch would maintain the quality level. There is, however, a large potential for some confusion. If Bosch also licenses the brand, it's a bit misleading. They might, however, change it to something like "Bosch F-Line" to reflect the history. I think we'll have to wait to see.
If one goes by their past performance they will most likely keep the branding separate much as they have with Vermont American, Roto-Zip and the other brands they have acquired. This could be complicated since they did not buy all of Freud.
The breadth of the assimilated lines has been increased and the quality is at least as good as before .
I hope they keep CharlesM on. It's hard to imagine a better asset.
