I am stumped. I was routing dadoes for stair treads, using my barely used Bosch Router, I finished one dadoe, repositioned the jig and….nothing. There is power to the unit-I’m sure of that, nothing tripped, One minute everything’s fine the next, the unit is just dead. I don’t see any reset buttons on the tool. Any ideas out there?

Bad receptacle, loose plug, bad switch, bad brushes .... I'd start with one of those proximity voltage sensors to be sure there's juice in the cord, then look either at the switch and brushes if there is, or the plug and receptacle if there isn't.

I'm not an expert, but my guess would be the switch. I know Bosch has a repair center here in the Chicago area (Addison, Il).
I read someplace else on the web that the Bosch has a power switch problem with some of these routers. Something to do with corrosion. Supposedly, not all of these units have the problem.
I have the same router and have not had a problem -- at least not yet.
I had exactly the same problem, was just setting the router up for some chamfering and then no go. Turned out to be the switch, apparently a common problem, cost me $30.00 with parts and install and was only down for one day. Hopefully you have a service center near but it can be changed if your somewhat handy yourself.
Cheers.
Thanks all, seems a litle wierd that a switch with hardly any use would go up ... oh well, to the yellow pages.Dave
I had the same problem, twice. The first time I had it serviced by Bosch. The tech told me that since it wasn't a sealed switch it was a common failure due to dust build up. So the second time it happened I just shot some comressed air thru the switch area. Now that's part of my tool maintance routine.
CAN'T BE TRUE!! I HAVE A BOSCH 1617 EVS AND IT QUIT THREE WEEKS AGO, SAME WAY. HAD IT ABOUT A YEAR WITH LITTLE USE. GOING TO DROP IT OFF AT THE SREVICE CENTER SOON.
Dink,
Why are you shouting? All caps is considered shouting!
Now to the subject. I have three 1617EVS routers; one has exhibited this problem. If I rock the switch a couple of times, the problem goes away.

Yup....Me Too!
Mines a switch that has been going out since about 1 hour of use.
I can usually get it up and running by flipping it hard but it's failing.
Real bummer. Bosch should be replacing these for free! I'll think twice before I get more Bosch products.

"Mines a switch that has been going out since about 1 hour of use." A switch would be covered under warantee, why didn't you get it fixed?
All of you who're having problems with the switch, contact info for Bosch:1-877-267-2499 orhttp://www.boschtools.com/product-services/contact-us/ forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)Another proud member of the "I Rocked With ToolDoc Club" .... :>)
Crap! Forget what I said about not having any problems with it. I was using it a couple of weeks ago and the switch stopped working. It started working again after I rocked the switch back and forth a few times. Has anyone had trouble taking their router in for servicing? Is this problem covered under warranty?
Toolfreak,I had a similar problem with my 3hp Dewalt. After finding out that a replacement switch was $80 I decided to take it apart myself. The switch was just caked with sawdust and the contacts were a little burned. There were a lot of little parts but after buffing the contacts I got it back together and it works like new.During the process though I did find a good site for parts:http://www.toolpartsdirect.com/cgi-bin/schematic.cgi/bosch/1617.039/They have parts for just about any router and have on-line drawings.Good luck,Dean
This is a fairly common problem. Mine is the same way too. Sawdust get jammed up in the switch and it has to be cleaned with compressed air pretty often. Once cleaned, it works fine again.
