The wood is black palm. Stringy and not very even. I need to bore a hole in a 1/2″ dowel right throgh the center. This is what i was thinking. Start with drilling a 2″ deep hole on the drill press to establish the direction parallel with the main axis. Then use a home made “D” bit made out of 1/8″ drill rod (http://www.geocities.com/Paris/5701/smallpipes/tools.htm). The questions i have are as follows. Would one do this on the lathe and have the wood turning? Would you do it on the drill pess, or just chuck the “D” bit into a drill and go to town? or just turn it by hand? What do you all think?
