I had a large apple log sawn into boards 35 years ago, which has been stored outside, covered ever since. The wood is straight and has lovely warm hue and my plan was to build a small chest or wall cabinet with it. However, I’ve found that somewhere along the line borers got into it, did some damage, and apparently moved on. After cutting away the worst, there is still a sizeable quantity of wood which has small holes on the surface and some boring evident from the ends.
Pis it worth proceeding with this wood, or should I write it off? Thanks.

Are you sure the insects are gone? kiln drying it will kill the bugs. You don't want to infect your house or shop with powder post beetles if that is what they are. If the lengths are small you could dry them in an oven for a few hours at 140 degrees and that would kill anything that is alive. Apple also makes great wood for BBQ.
