I think I’ve applied a coat of boiled linseed oil that was beyond its shelf life. It lacked its normal strong odor, and while I was able to spread it evenly, it did not flow easily. My question is, will there be problems down the road, or should I just not worry about it?
Thanks, Jack

BLO
Whether it drys or not is the important question ?

Thanks for the reply. It dried. Would if help or make any difference at all if I put on a "fresh" coat with new BLO tomorrow? -Jack
Re-Coat
No don't recoat. You didn't say how long it's been dried for ? If you just recently applied the BLO - you can take a soft cloth lightly dampened with mineral spirits and wipe the surface. Otherwise if it's been dry a while already - just let it alone for a week. Consider a top coat of wiping varnish for a harder finish - not more BLO.

Thanks so much. I applied it this morning and it was dry to the touch within an hour or two. It's on a pine stool inspired by Christian Becksvoort's article in the current FWW, so I need a hard finish. -Jack
what do you
mean by flow. one does not flow blo on. one just applies it ,let it sit for a few minutes and wipe it dry except fo open grain wood where one should come back every few hours fo awhile and wipe it again as it will bleed from the open pores
