I use a product called "Reuzit Belt and Tool Cleaner ". It is far less dangerous than the lye bath that we used to use at many shops.
This stuff does a great job of cleaning both sanding belts and bits and blades.
I am not sure where you will be able to get Reuzit - I get it from Superior Saw -a commercial sharpening service in Tacoma WA.
I did a quick web search and fouind it availabe at a place called
Advanced Machinery Systems
hope this helps,
Darrell
