I recieved the 2004 tool guide today after much anticipation, but was very dissapointed after looking it over. Of the few tools that were actually tested, they chose to leave out so many brands that it made the comparisson quite worthless. For example, the coordless 18 vold reciporcating saw category, where is the Ridgid Saw?
This tool guide doesn’t even mention any corded reciprocating saws let alone comparing them.
Another common tool I was interested in were miter saws. All they did was explain the different styles. Is this a tool guide for house wives? Anyone that would read Fine Home Building and Fine Wood Working or any other magazine like these, already knows the difference! Where’s the comparison tests?
Last but not least, why do they have a picture of a Dewalt Contractor Table Saw on the cover when they don’t ever mention that saw or compare that category in the guide?
This is truly a miss guiding tool guide and a $9.99 rip off! Nice Job Matthew Teague!

READ MY POST ON SAWZALLS tools have changed so much in my 30 years as a carpenter!! did you know batterys on these have 2 diffrent types ??!!! the tools that are sold by our favorite chains which are putting our freindly tool stores out of buisness are selling the tools with the better batterys !!! we are saving maybe 10.00
I was also disapointed to a certain extent. I have been interested in a table saw for some time now and thought the 2004 Tool Guide would answer my questions. Although they did a review on cabinet saws, they really left out contractor saws and hybrids (Which I was interested in). The cover shows the DW746 if I am not mistaken but little info about it and its family. I guess you can only cram so much in a mag before it burst at the seams but I was still left somewhat unsatisfied. All in all it was a good read (made the magazine holder in the can) tho so I can't bash it too hard I suppose.

I ordered it, read it thru in about 15 mnutes, and didn't find any useful information in it that I could use. To me, a tool guide should not only review but also give me a "list of features" that I should pay attention to. It didn't do any of this.
I understand for $10 you can't expect much but the description was very misleading. It seemed like it was more like a collection of articles than a well thought out guide.
5 minutes browsing while standing in front of the rack at Lowes was just about enough time to read what was important....plus it was free. It honestly looked like they repackaged last year's guide.
Taunton next time your people take a vacation from reviewing tools, dont release a $10 commercial for certain tools, while not even bothering to review the majority of the stuff we're interested in.
I think that with all your magazine sales you could at least afford to network with a few tradesman and have them review a few tools. Try to stop publishing crap that tarnishes your company's respected name. After all the people that review these tools probably have our dream jobs.
Pete.
P.S. if you get smart and fire the people responsible for such a crappy publication. write to me, so i can help you guys write some good tool publications.
