I just purchased four Bessey Revo clamps, I ordered them while Lee Valley had there free shipping promotion on, needed a few more clamps for a chest I am working on. The clamps where damaged during shipping, three of them the red plastic that covers the metal jaw was broke, I know that returning them to Lee Valley won’t be a problem, what I am concerned with is if they broke during shipping will they not get broken if I knock them off the bench on to the cement floor? Just wondering if anyone has had problems with them breaking in the workshop? I don’t think my old style K bodys would have broke like these did, maybe I should try a different brand.

Try some Jet clamps.

I wonder if maybe the cold weather they were shipped in made the plastic more brittle than usual.

That could be we did have a cold snap up here about then.
No. I ordered 8 clamps and three had broken clips. It looks like the box was dropped on its end and thats when they broke. Getting them replaced was not a problem
mike,
Had the same problem with some 40" K's I ordered from Woodcraft - cold weather here too. What's interesting is the the 24" K's that came in the same box were not damaged. Guess the 40's were keeping them protected.

Went to Lee Valley and picked up some replacement clamps for the ones that were damaged, so we will see how they stand up in the shop. thanks to all that posted.
Yup, Woodcraft is sending replacements for mine too. Talked to them on the phone, offered to take pics/send them back, etc. No problem.
Sure is nice dealing with reputable businesses.

It is nice dealing with reputable companies. I purchased a squirrel proof (so they say) birdfeeder for my wife for Christmas from Lee Valley. They apparently lowered the price after the holiday and sent me a check for ten dollars out of the blue. I was impressed to say the least.
Mike,
If you know any metalworkers, you can have them make iron sleeves that fit over the broken plastic. You will not only have unbreakable clamps, but you will have a unique set of clamps that one day, will sell for thousands of dollars on EBay. :-)
Have fun.
