I had a fellow ask about “Bench Top Bandsaws. he already had a “full-sized” one, but wanted a way to do a little scroll work without blade changes. What are some “Good’ chioces for this? Mine are over 20 years old, so I wasn’t much help. I know some out there are junk, but is there a couple “diamonds in the rough” out there?

Bench top bandsaws
Would a scroll saw not fit the application better?
Don
Don hit the 'nail on the head' with his reply..
I have a Delta 14 inch? bandsaw and a 18 inch bandsaw (Rikon) .. My trusty old Dremel scroll saw works better than just OK with the correct blade...I think scroll sawing is something like a heart surgeon.. I never acheived those skills!
I saw.. 'scroll work without blade changes.' ..
I would think impossible!
dueling bandsaw joes
I agree with Don - if he's planning on scrolling, a bandsaw likely isn't the right choice. On the other hand, he might have his scroll saw tied up with resawing. ;-)
I agree with the comments "use a scroll saw", but if I were to buy a small bandsaw, I'd look for an Inca.
Bench Top Bandsaws
The guy just wanted a small bandsaw for some "scroll cuts" so he wouldn't have to change the blades on his "full sized" bandsaw'. I guess he is plannig to cut some stuff 3/4" and thicker. I suggested a RIKON benchtop, or even the new 10" Craftsman one ( also by RIKON, I think)
Rikon etc.
I'd guess the Rikon would be OK for what he's doing. Not sure if they make the Craftsman unit. A used Inca would be great, too, but they stopped shipping to the U.S. years ago. Great tools, though. I love my Inca 8" jointer/planer and the 18" bandsaw (3-wheeler).
The smallest band saw blade I've seen lately is 1/8" - which doesn't translate to tight curves. But, if he's doing larger (outside-only) curves, he's probably OK.
Whitedog.. I have a yellow lab dog that tries his best to put up with me...
" Although I have the right to remain stupid, I try not to abuse that right"/
I abuse my rights all the time in here. None have contacted Fineoodworking to send me away? Maybe I am just on Ingore? And my old dog and I get along well... IF I rember to feed and water him...
A scroll saw is much different than a Band-Saw....
The term "White dog'
...Is from the first family pet that I had, a White German Shepard. The TWO bandsaws that I have are; a Sears Craftsman "three-wheeler' ( by emerson, it's that old0, and a Delta benchtop that was selling for around $99 a few years ago. The Sears has neede only a single "tire change" in all the years I've had it. It was also a "yard sale find" that i bought for about $90. I keep an 1/8" blade on board to do "scrolling" cuts. The tires? I went out and got a few "Dirt Devil" sweeper belts! they fit the wheels perfectly. As for the sign off. Yep, I get reminded of that fact everyday,LOL. Usually I don;t abuse the right, but every now and then, something happens.
