Hi All,
A quick question from your intrepid FWW editors; this one’s directed toward those who have a basement shop. Did you do anything to your interior access door to mitigate dust or noise migration? For instance, did you add weatherstripping, change a hollow core door to solid wood or an insulated door, or do something else? Tell us about it, and post here, with pictures if you have ’em. Thanks!

I find the little household noise and dust that infiltrates the shop doesn't bother me at all. No accommodations.
FUNNY!
I added a weather strip on the bottom of the door. I have dedicated shop shoes which aren't used upstairs. I also run the air cleaner during and at least 2 hrs after shop use.
Ditto on the basement shoes. Also, put a mat on the bottom of the steps to wipe you feet. Vacuum steps often. Keep wife happy.
Dust is amazing! Sort of like life... Gets into place you would NEVER expect!
I work in a really small garage shop with only weather stripping on the door.. AND 2 inch thick foam on the doors to help keep the sound out
My Granddaughters can smell the 'funny' smell of the wood I use but not much dust inside.. I have to admit that another room keeps us apart!
weatherstriping will slow down dust from coming through the door...
I think the shop has to be seperated from the rest of the basement, especially the utility area... I dont want dust around the gas water heater, and I dont want it 'leaking' into the forced-air heating vents, if it gets in there it *will* get int the rest of the house resulting in problems with the "project foreperson"
