Anyone use Bartley’s Pensylvania Cherry gel stain? I am considering using it on a set of cherry dining room chairs to even out the color variation in the boards.
also anyone know where to buy it in the San Francisco Bay Area (peninsula prefered) or do I need to mail order for it?
thanks
Jeff

Why wouldn't you just let the cherry age to its own beautiful color without obscuring it with stain? ;o)
I've used this -- tho' not on cherry. I was happy with it on the occasions I used it -- as I recall, I used it once to make fake cherry out of maple, and once to darken some red oak.
FWIW, gell stain won't automatically "even out the color". You need to treat it almost like paint, and put it on heaver, or more coats, where the color is lighter, etc. Probably it's me, but my attempts to "even out" cherry always end up looking worse that the wood did naturally. (But I kinda like the natural variations in cherry - go figger!)
