Looking for advise on the purchase of a band saw. I have been looking into Grizzly and would like to hear opinions on the G1012, the G1073 & G1073Z, possibly even the G4186Z. Does anyone out there own one of these saws?
Thanks for the help

Jeff,
My Grizzly catalogue doesn't list a G1012. Don't own any of those, but I do know you're right in the price range of a 14" closed stand Jet or Delta which, with extension block kits, will give you greater resaw capacity than any of the Grizz saws you list. Check the archives - I believe there was a discussion on this a few weeks ago. Forest Girl or someone mentioned some vibration problems.
Jeff
The vibration problem I mentioned is with the 14" Z-series saw. Became noticeable after I may have over-tensioned the blade. Time to put a new one on anyway.
The saws that Jeff posted about are 16" and 18" saws. I know the 16" has gotten great reviews both in mags and from long-time users. Haven't seen that much about the 18". My impression is, however, that both of these saws are significantly better than the 14" models.
Doesn't Jet have a new 16" saw? Something in that range with a new body design that's supposed to smooth as silk (vibration-wise). Am looking forward to seeing it at the WWing show.forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
I saw the new line of Jet bandsaws at Eastside saw the other day. The 20" is a nice looking machine .... modeled somewhat after the Laguna it appears. $1600 ..... Ahhhhh wishful thinking. But after trying to re-saw this green walnut log I'm thinking even harder.

If you get that new job...hehe,
buy a Minimax rather than the Laguna.
cheaper AND better.
:)
Jeff, I have the G1073 bandsaw, this is the 16" saw. I love this saw, have about a year and a half. The saw is cast iron except for the wheel covers. It weighs about 450 lbs. Takes 113" blades and will resaw up to 7 3/4" high. Excellent fence , okay miter gauge, fit and finish excellent. 220 volts , dust port works well.I have the open stand but grizzly also has a cabinet type stand. If you need to move this saw around you will need the Shop Fox mobile base. I tried another mobile base that I had laying around but it could not easily move this heavy saw. I highly reccomend this particular bandsaw.
