Getting a blade and the fence parallel is a much looser proposition on a band saw than on a table saw, this is why you couldn't find a description of the process.
If the blade and the fence on a table saw aren't in line you will have both safety and cut quality problems, but this isn't true on a band saw. On a band saw, the fence is aligned to get the best cut which may, or may not, happen when the blade and fence are exactly parallel.
It is, however, worth the trouble when setting up the saw to start out with the blade more or less parallel to both the table's miter slot and fence so that there is room to swing the fence to either the left and right as needed to get the best cut.
It would help, before I answer your question, to know what brand and model of saw you have.
