I am wanting to know if others have had any business experience with Bad Dog Tools. I purchased some of their drill bits at a Woodworking Show a couple of weekends ago and now cannot get them to respond to me regarding the whereabouts of my order. I have emailed them several times for nothing more than an inquiry as to the status of my order which I was told would be at my door in 7 to 10 days. Now I get no response. Just want to know what your experience has been with this company. I am very puzzled. They sure were very “gung ho” at the show. Now that they have my cash their “gung ho and NO SHOW!”

Bad Dog customer service is HORRIBLE
HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE!! My mother tried to order some Bad Dog products for my father for their anniversary. She's not too savvy on the computer so I helped her. We made our way through placing the order, but the confirmation delivery email did not state when she would receive the products and the tracking was not yet showing any information. So I called Bad Dog to try and get the information. I explained I was calling for my mother and just wanted to get an idea of when she would receive the package. The girl on the phone seemed to have a slight attitude when saying, "did you look at the email." I thought I might have misread the attitude so I let it slide and explained the tracking was not yet showing any information so I just wanted to get an idea of the delivery time. She came back with a MAJOR attitude then (no mistaking this one) and said, "it's on there, you just need to read." I then said, "why do you have such an attitude, I'm just trying to figure out when my mom will receive this. I see the link to bring up tracking, but it's not showing any information yet because we just placed the order." She obviously didn't like that I was calling her behavior out because she then said, "well if you'd stop being such an idiot and read then you would know." At this point I'm shocked and trying to keep my voice down because I was nursing my 4 month old son at the time. I told her I needed to speak with her supervisor. She said she was the owner, she's canceling my order, and then she hung up on me. I then tell my husband about the experience, and ask him to call because the things I wanted to call back and say to her would not have been helping the situation and were not appropriate while I was holding my son in my arms. He looked at the email first and verified it did not say when my mother could expect the package. He then called for me and said the words, "I'm calling on behalf of my wife." She must of known he was my husband because she immediately cut him off and started blurting out her version and blatantly lying about how it all went down, which was completely irrelevant, all he wanted was to get the order through for my mother. He really didn't care what had transpired earlier. So he sits and listens, waiting for a chance to say something so we can just move forward. He finally had enough, interrupted, and said, "well I know that's not how it went down." Which she came back and said she didn't want to have anything to do with our family and the order was canceled. So not sure what side of the bed she woke up on this morning and how a simple question of "when can my mother be expecting the package" set her off, but if you're big on customer service when you order products this is NOT the company for you!! My father is building a shop and had plans to order many of their products, but that won't be happening now.
Sorry, can't help. In fact, I hadn't heard of them until you posted this.
For most types of bits, I order feom W. L. Fuller (http://www.wlfuller.com/).
If you're talking about the Bad Dog Tools that sell those drill bits that drill through files, they are always at The Woodworking Shows. In fact, I believe they bought The Woodworking Shows a few years ago. Go there and punch them in the face.
BTW those drill bits suck.
Mike,
The Woodworking Show was bought this past year by a young man who managed it for a couple of years. He's very smart and eager to move it forward. You're in Columbus right? If you go next week you'll see Bad Dog is no longer there and no longer associated.Good riddance.
You're right, their stuff did suck!
March 2013
They moved the Columbus show to sometime in March. I'm glad Woodworking Shows are owned by a new owner. The past few years have been terrible.
Mike,
How were the shows bad? Was it seminars, tools? Any helpful ideas?
Here's a different perspective for you from the vendors side of the table. Everyone is aware of internet shopping so many just show uo to kick tires. One person there is a private company and he produces a very well engineered tool for cutting fine inlays and intricate designs. Basically a good solid U.S. made tool.
Here's what he gets on a regular basis "What can you REALLY sell it for?" "Why can't I get a cheaper?" "Isn't there a show special?" "Aren't there any freebies"? These are direct quotes.
When they're told "that's the price" the dismissive and smug attitudes always add to the fun. What they don't see is the shipping costs, booth rental, air fare, car, food and lodging.
Add to that the stolen DVD's and books. That always helps a vendors bottom line.
If you have any constructive ideas, I'll be happy to pass them along.
Vendors were light
The selection of vendors has been very light over the past few years. Back in the early '90's, the building was packed with different vendors selling all sort of things you never saw before. I always went there looking for the odd ball tool that I couldn't buy at Woodcraft or Rockler. An example is The Router Wizard. Bought it five years ago at the show and have never seen them again. I love that tool and I would have never have know about it had it not been them having a booth. The past few years it seems like nearly everything at the show can easily be found at Woodcraft. I'm not driving 100 miles to go visit a large Woodcraft store, if you know what I mean.
