I am looking to buy or make a baby-proof safety latch for double glass doors on an entertainment center. The doors are at floor level and only 18 inches high. So, our 11 month old can reach the doors easily and the usual latches.
I’d like something that prevents the doors from being opened at all since the baby can stick her hands inside when using those baby proofing latches that allow the door to open a small amount.
This baby analyzes everything and gets into EVERYTHING, so even a simple barrel/bolt lock is out (besides looking bad on glass doors).
Any ideas?

One of the companies, maybe Rockler, carries a latch that is magnet operated. The door is held closed by a very strong magnet, and you use a magnetic "key" to unlock it. I'll trip over there and see if I can find it. Always wanted to find a use for one of those, LOL.

Found it! They specifically market it as "especially good for keeping children out of cabinets." Click here.

Thank you for responding and for looking on Rockler.
I am not sure this would work out well with glass doors. Any idea how it would attach to the glass?
Mmmmm, sorry, I didn't think that one through very well. Double-glass doors are tough. As far as attachment goes, epoxy? but it wouldn't be pretty for sure. Is there any way to nicely change the double-glass over to sliding glass? Then you could use those locks that are made for sliding-glass display cases.
Hopefully, someone here will come up with a solution for you!forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)Another proud member of the "I Rocked With ToolDoc Club" .... :>)
I've been banging my head against the wall trying to come up with something! Some of my ideas just will not look nice in the livingroom.
Yes, double glass doors on pivot hinges are tough for locking. They have magnetic plunger-type latches at the top corner where they meet, so there is a metal piece that wraps around the glass... maybe 1.25" x 1.75" each. I might be able to attach the suggested lock to the metal.
EDIT: But then the magnet "key" may not work! Grrrrr!

I've been through this exact situation. I used one of those magnetic key locks on my entertainment center. To attach the unit to the glass, I used epoxy. I also removed the original magnetic latch that came with the entertainment center. It worked really well. I got my magentic lock from the home center in the "kiddie proof" section. Good luck.
