I’ve been working on the applied acanthus leaves and shell for a chippendale dressing table ( plan #15 at the bottom ) for the last week or so. I’m approaching completion and thought that I’d post a few pictures. I haven’t done much specifically like this before. It’s still a little too faceted and there are a few flat spots, but I’m very happy with the results.
The shell was taken directly off the plans sold by olde mill, I made several changes to the leaf portion.

matt,
very nice. cannot see the "flats" from here. my early instruction in carving was the traditional stuff, such as yours and, although i've been at it for years, still don't come up to your skills. i have always used the excuse that i can't draw to save my life. however i have noticed that i can sculpt in clay and get quite close to what i want. by the way, is yours glued with paper to the board and will that not be delicate work to remove?
awesome work.

I'll probably just run it over the jointer until it's thin enough to pick off with a broad chisel.....Seriously, it's double sided tape, a hefty dose of Naphtha will disolve the adhesive. No representation without taxation
