Anyone going “WWing in America” confrnce
Just learned about the Woodworking in America Furniture Construction and Design Conference happening this August. Unfortunate time, perhaps, for the sponsors? Just wondering if anyone’s planning to go.

FG,
I didn't know about the conference until I read your message. I checked out the topics and the speakers. Excellent set of speakers. I wish the conference was not so far from home. Some of the speakers come speak locally once in a while. Headley, for example, has his shop nearby, and has spoken to the local Guild and goes to other local events.
I envision a time, not long from now, when it won't matter how far away the conference is, because you will be able to attend "by computer". That won't give the full benefits of being there in person, but it will enable you to see the talks.
Have fun.

Hi forestgirl,
There is another WWIA happening in Oct in PA. http://handtools.woodworkinginamerica.com/schedule/ This one is more of a hand tool event.
I went to the first WWIA last year in Berea, KY and had a blast. To me it was definitely worth the $300. Nothing in Chicago looks interesting to me other than learning Sketchup. I'd love to go to the one in PA in October but I don't know if I'll have the time nor money.
Mike
Hi Mike,
Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, that one is a definite maybe fer me.

Hi Bob,
If you can make it down there I would go. The marketplace they set up with a bunch of hand tool vendors is pretty impressive.
Mike,
Certainly an impressive list of presenters and the topics are a potpourri of skill building subjects. That alone to me would be more than worth the price of admission.

And me birthday is in late August so I may be good to go.

Bob.Take your some hoppers for after the show, there's good bows and browns on the upper Perkiomen and on parts of French creek in October. Went to school in that area long time back.
On second though, maybe I'll go back for the show. Hmmm..Boiler
Bob,, Say HI! to Roy Underhill from me if you see him!
Will,
10-4 man, will do. Can't wait to meet him myself. Have you met him?

Just behind the camera.. I was watching TV!
And a old song I sing when walkin' up to my old Table Saw.. For a new project.

If I thought of it first it would have to be... On my projects.. I just love this song....

Old but have many songs I like! Nothing like SWING!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swing_music
My mother listened to Swing as I was delivered.. I remember IT..
She played it every day and night.. I still do to this day.. What wonderful songs and music.. Although I do like ZZ TOPS on occasion! And I just love Blondy Heart of Glass!

What a woman should be.. Like my wife.. But my wife was nothing like Blondy..
But very alike in my mind,, A woman with the same love of life.. Just different color hair..
As my lady was a brown hair girl.. My Lady and I were married and got along for many years... Before I married her or was that she ALLOWED me to marry her?

Bob, have you registered yet? I just got an email about early registration and the savings involved. (I'm on PopWW mailing list, but not going to the conference)forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
forestgirl,
Yup, check's in the mail. Mike (mvflaim) kinda suggested to me to git 'r done soon so I did. I've managed to get signed up for all the sessions but there are some times when I'll be scrambling getting from one to another.

One cool thing they did at the last conference was invite bloggers and give them essentially press passes. They covered the event real time and even shot video. I suspect they'll do that again. At the last conference in Wmsburg, they were really cutting down on photography and video. Sorta the opposite of what PW did at Woodworking in America.I understand the issues around privacy. But I wonder if Wmsburg's conferences would sell out quicker or would sell more tickets (have more sessions) if they allowed ww bloggers and the ww print press to cover the event. The Wmsburg conferences almost feel like a secret society. We're like Masons or something. (not really)Pretty sure last year's WiA event sold out in under 2 weeks. This year's event is a little different. There's limited seating for the talks, but the market place will be open to the general public. Most of the speakers will probably be hanging out in the marketplace between talks so if you wanted chat with one of us, you should be able to. I'm almost positive we'll have a "play area" set up in the marketplace. If there isn't an offical one, I'll set one up myself! It would be nice to meet some of the folks from KNOTS. Bob, be sure to track me down. Adam
Adam,
Bob, be sure to track me down.
Oh you can be sure of that. I'm basically going there in absorb mode to learn as much as I can.

Sounds like a fun time. Bloggers are entities onto their own, the whole "reporting in real time" -- that's raw energy, it is! I would imagine it's a double-edged sword for some -- great publicity, but no control.
Is the conference in the same place each year, or does it move around the country? forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
The conference moves. I don't think anyone seeks to control the press. On the contrary, the bloggers provided real time feedback to help us make the event better. One of my favorite bloggers is Kari Hultman http://www.villagecarpenter.blogspot.com/ I'm also partial to Peter Follansbee's blog. These blogs feature great info, and terrific writers. Matt's basement is good, I read the woodwhisperer, Shannon's blog the Rennaissance woodworker, etc etc.I don't know if you guys read them, but I enjoy these blogs.Adam
Hi Adam,
Congratulations on the CD. Would ye be bringing any copies to the conference?
