Anybody seen new CNC Shark at Rockler?
I received a flyer touting the new CNC Shark at Rockler. I was in buying some stuff and asked about it, and they were just putting it together. They called me back and said to come by for a demo and it was interesting. It uses a bosch colt for the motor. They did not have the software to demo, just a sd memory card with a preloaded sign on it. It worked pretty quickly. I would think its the competition to the one sold at sears (compucarve). I could not find any detail on it on the rockler site, but did find another web site. Anyway, its looks cool, but I would proable not plunk down the bucks necessary to get it.

If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it.
And if it stops moving, subsidize it.

Bones,
I too have fantasies about adding a CNC router to the shop. I got turned off to the Compucarve because of its limited capabilities and all the bad press about it. I have too many other flaky machines here that I'm constantly debugging.
I've been sniffing out the ShopBot site for a while longing for that benchtop system (which I will never be able to justify). My issue with the shark is just...would you really pay $2300 for a machine that uses a laminate trimmer as its business end?
That can't bode well. Heck, the Compucarve might have a Dremel tool or...maybe a super powered electric toothbrush...hiding in there, I guess....

Worse yet the ad I saw used a drywall tool!------------------------------------
