Good Morning. I hope everyone is enjoying the holiday weekend.
I’m resurrecting an antique wardrobe that was originally bought by my wife’s great grandmother sometime around 1905. I managed to remove several amatuerish repairs and get the whole thing straightened back up and tightened up.
I hit a snag, however, with one of the door locks. It’s broken and the key doesn’t fit very well. It’s mate on the other door still works fine. I’ve checked all the usual places for a replacement, but haven’t found anything and am hoping that someone knows where I can find one.
Here’s a picture of what I need. It’s a very simple surface mounted lock with a keyhole through the door. The dimensions are 1.75″ wide and 3″ high. If anyone knows of a source for a replacement, please let me know.
Thanks

Dave,
Whitechapel Hardware is probably your best bet.
If they don't have it, try Ball and Ball Hardware, Horton Brasses, Paxton Hardware
Your lock is relatively standard - you will just need to find one that is the closest size.
Good luck,
Lee
Thanks for the tip, Lee. They all had something that looks like it would work, but Ball and Ball's website says that they can rebuild an old lock. I'll call them Tuesday.
Thanks again
Dave , Check at the local lock smith shop , if they don't have it in stock they can in several days .

Oh, do have it rebuilt if possible. That looks to be a nice nice old piece.
I found a guy on the net a while back that repaired and restored old locks. He sold them as well. I'll look through my old favorites when I get home. I did find a forum for antique locks. You may find what you are looking for there.

If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it.
And if it stops moving, subsidize it.
