GARY,
I’M CONSIDERING A FREUD RP 2000 SHAPER CUTTER SYSTEM FOR PRODUCTION WORK. BEING MADE FROM AIRCRAFT GRADE ALUMINUM, HOW MUCH LESS STRESS AND STRAIN WOULD SUCH A HEAD PLACE ON THE SHAPER, THAN WOULD A STEEL HEAD OF THE SAME DIAMETER, I.E. 5.5″? WOULD SUCH A CUTTER HEAD INCREASE THE EFFECTIVE CUTTER DIAMETER THAT THE SHAPER CAN HANDLE? I INTEND TO RUN THE CUTTER HEAD ABOVE THE STOCK, SO THAT THE TABLE INSERT OPENING ON MY 3 H.P. 1″ SHAPER SHOULDN’T BE A PROBLEM, OR WOULD IT?
THANKS,
DAVE

Dave,
Man, I have no clue. I profess only ignorance in this matter. I don't like shapers much. Don't use 'em, don't want to.
If Freud stands by their aluminum cutter head then it would seem to be fine. It should have less weight than a steel one. It's just a question of how it will hold up over time. I would contact Freud directly with your questions. Get in touch with a product engineer.
Sorry but I'm not one. Gary
