Hello all…
I need your input on spokeshaves, particularly on choosing one. I’ve never owned or used a spokeshave but I’ve got a project or two in which I’d like to use one.
A round soled spokeshave is what I’m after, but after reading some reviews, articles and comments I’m looking at the Veritas Low Angle spokeshave. It’s sole plate is reversible which should enable it to do both flat and concave as well as rounded work. My question is: does this particular low angle spokeshave work equally well on rounded (inside) work as a regular angled (45 degree) round spokeshave? As I have no experience with these tools I obviously like the idea of having two functions in one spokeshave instead of having to invest in two separate tools.
All relevant comments, insight, experience, warnings and suggestions are very welcome – thanks!

Tom, this is an old post but just in case. I have that spokeshave and there is two things that annoys me.
1- it's blade is a little tricky to sharpen. It's small and it's difficult to do make a nice rounded grinding to hone easily after. Well I have to say that I'm no sharpening expert though.
2- if you try to shave where the grain is so flat changing direction several time, it tears the fiber and it's bad.
Other than that I like it and it works great when shaving with the grain but I definitely need another one myself.

Lee Valley sells a little holder for short blades: http://www.leevalley.com/wood/page.aspx?c=2&cat=1,43072,43078&p=44484
It makes it much easier to grind and hone them.

Steve,Thanks for the tip. I'm a "fan" of Lee Valley but I did not know about that tool. Sylvain
