I purchased a Dewalt 12″ compound miter saw a while back and recently I purchased a wet/dry vac. The sawdust bag on the compound miter saw fitting is too small for my wet dry vac hose. Is there an adaptor I can purchase?

Hi Buzzsaw... go to your local 'Home Despot' and find the plumbing department. Look for a small size 'hubless' connector / adapter. It is a rubber coupling with two different sized ends and a couple of hose clamps. Unless you are trying to fit a 4" hose to a 1" end, you should be able to match up the two different sizes easily. They make one to connect a clothes washer hose to drain-pipe. It may be exactly what you are looking for.

Thanks SawdustSteve. Great suggestion...Regards,

Good luck. I have one of those saws and even with my dust system at full throttle connected to that fitting on the saw, it didn't make a dent in the dust that the saw spews out. I finally built a rather large dust collection box/hood and suck the dust out of that. Its a poor solution because the box/hood is so big, but the only one I have found.
I found that the hose/port size on my SCMS was too restrictive for the DC and the shop vac worked better. I too built a hood which has to 4" ports connected to the DC and with the SCMS hooked up to the Fein the combo gets 95% of the dust. I had major sticker shock over the PC universal adapter which were around $25! I've done just fine with a little duct tape, hose clamps and PVC fittings.John O'Connell - JKO Handcrafted Woodworking

John,
As I just asked Sophie, could you post a picture of your "hood which has to 4" ports connected to the DC"? I would like to see what others have done for a solution. Thanks...Regards,
Buzzsaw

My set up is virtually the same as in the link posted by elcoholic, except the 4inch dust port exits out the top of the box, near the back. I do not have a vac connected directly to the saw.
Sophie,
Would it be possible to post a picture of your setup (if ya have a digital camera)? I am a visual person and am interested in your "rather large dust collection box/hood " setup. Thanks...

Shop Vac and Porter Cable make adapters ......... one of them may fit.

HD, Highland Hardware, Rockler, etc. have a step adapter. It had the first step diameter about 1", the subsequent steps go up 2", 3", 4", etc. You cut to the line on the size step that fits the saw end and cut off the other end to mate the size of the DC or vac that you're attaching too.
A plumbing coupling as mentioned will work also. I use one and duct tape the fitting for air tight.

I bought a step adapter from Porter Cable with size ranges from 1, 1 1/4, 1 3/8, 1 3/4, OD, and a threaded ID for a 1 1/4 hose. I use it for dust collection on my Craftsmen miter box and Makita pad sander.
Thanks CJohn. I went to Woodworker's Warehouse the other day and was told that there is a universal adaptor I can purchase as well. Thanks for the info...Regards,
