I was cutting acrylic sheet on my 60 tooth carbide table saw blade today. I’ve done this many times with no problems at all.
Today, I carelessly twisted the sheet and the edge of the sheet was forced up agaisnt the side of the blade, melting the plastic which then solidified on the blade. I now have lots of rough plastic firmly stuck on the body of the blade. Mostly on one side. Nothing on the carbide teeth. Some is melted into expansion slots!
No solvents I have in the shop will get it off including acetone and lacquer thinner. It doesn’t want to chip off very easily and I don’t want to damage the blade by trying that very forceably.
I know that methyl methacrylate is the “glue” for acrylic. It works by disolving the joint surfaces of two different pieces which then flow and fuse together to make a solid, continuous joint. Does anyone recommend methy methacrylate (or anything else) to disolve the plastic barnacles on my blade?

Acetone will soften it but you may have to leave it soaking overnight
Thanks. I'll try that.
too finer blade or too slow feed rate can be a problem with acrylic maybe a little parawax would help
gosh-- what about putting it in the freezer for a few days-making sawdust
sounds like a good idea but no VOC buzz to the household they wouldn't know I was around ;-)
whaw== I guess you need to interput that for memaking sawdust
No, the problem was that I let the sheet twist into the blade.Rich
Rich. Acetone and lacquer thinner evaporates very quickly.
Try to find a shallow baking pan and immerse the blade in the pan with 1/2"of lacquer thinner. Wrap tightly with double layer of aluminum foil and put a flat board and a weight on top . Do this outside of the house and no smoking allowed. Also placing the plastic coated side of the blade upturned in the 'Soup' Overnight will loosen all of it.

Thanks,Since the last message, I have been trying to figure out how I am going to prevent the solvent from evaporating before morning. Actually, I have nothing big enough to put the blade in so that it lies flat. I'll have to get something in the morning. It's good to know that the plastic will disolve.Rich
