I happened to revisit thewoodworkingchannel.com ( had not been there in a long time). I liked the idea, but did not like the fact it was like TV and you had to stick to the schedule i.e. I could not start a show when I wanted it. They are reworking the site and you will be able to start at your will. They have a 13 part series with Sam Maloof. An extremely interesting series. Each part about 30 minutes long. Just to listen to him is awsome. I found it funny thought that he used a wooden yard stick for measurements, a framers square, and pictures show him using a router and discussing using screws. In another question answer session someone asks the question about alternating growth rings in his chair bottom glue ups and wonders what he does. His reply is to say which ever looks better. If you get the chance check out the videos. I’d love spend some time watching him in person.

If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it.
And if it stops moving, subsidize it.

Mr. bones,
That is great! I'm going to watch them all. Maybe a CD will be made?
Thanks very much for sharing it,

A Woodworkers mind should be the sharpest tool in the shop!
Its been a few years ago, but I had the good fortune of attending a weekend workshop with Sam as the presenter. It was at Highland Hardware (now Highland Woodworking) in Atlanta -- one of the truly great temples of the craft.
Sam Maloof is one of the most delightful people you could ever meet. Although he is among the world's pre-eminent artists, talking to him is like talking to your next door neighbor. And his love for anything naturally beautiful (flowers, the mountains in fall, a sunset) runs just as deep as his woodworking abilities.
If the chance ever comes to see him, make the time, and find the money somewhere. It will change how you think.
Politics is the antithesis of problem solving.
Thanks for sharing your personel experience. Means a lot. Nothing but respect for Mr. Maloof believe me. To meet him must have been an incredible experience.
Thx again, Brian
My sentiments as well . I had the good fortune of meeting Mr Maloof, the weekend that series was filmed. It was at Turning Point studios in Atlanta. On display were Jimmy Carters collection of Maloof pieces,Double rocker in curly maple, Low back chair in zircote , single rocker in walnut, to name a few. Needless to say all works of art. As for Mr Maloof they do not come any finer. I managed to get a couple of his books signed as well as a couple of photos with him. I will always treasure the experience.
When did it take place. Recently?Government's view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it.
I'm thinking 2 or 3 years ago
Thank You!!! Have saved it and hope to somehow get it on a CD. Thanks for sharing! Why can't I get that channel here in California?
Thx, Brian

Hell, I thought that was JUST like life!
I would love a day that was predictable and stayed to a schedule. Government's view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it.
I for one never let that bother me.. I was one that was ALWAYS early and had to wait for the folks to 'wake up' or whart ever they were doing.. I lived with that!
