Wow!
I'll bet that goes onto someone's display shelf! Too pretty by far to be used. :)
Very nice.

Hats off to you Derek - for not only improving upon the standard design a bit, but finding someone that'll actually pay for shooting board. In the US at the moment, I don't think I could sell the finest miter plane in the world, even if it were priced at $500 US, much less an accessory that most wood workers make themselves.
You might seriously consider writing the design and construction process up for Popular Woodworking. They pay fairly well, and have really re-focused a lot of the content of the mag towards traditional hand-tool usage.
Superb job!
That will probably get placed neatly on the workbench, right next to the bottle of wine and some cheese, all to be consumed whilst viewing a fine, unused plane collection.

Derek,
Neat features, the removable miter accessory and adjustable fence. Nice to look at, and nice to use too, no doubt.
Not comparing this to your shooting board by any means, but on my first bowl, I accidently turned through the bottom. So I epoxied a quarter in the hole so that it was worth atleast that much.

Nice and then some! You build starships in you spare time?
Derek,
Greetings from this side of our country! [Southern Highlands of NSW]. Have long followed threads with your name attached and your familiar 'sign off',but have only just caught up with your shots of your shooting board, plane hand piece, etc.[A few months ago,I had to put down my planes and chisels and go into battle with compound saws and framing nailers! finewoodworking indeed!!]
My close inspection of Knots since then has been somewhat perfunctory, but I must add my admiration to that of our American/Canadian friends.
It's great work, and I agree with the blokes who said that those pieces could probably end up in a display cabinet and never be used!
Regards,
Robin

Thank you for the kind compliments.
I do hope that particular shooting board is used. It was made at the same time as the one in the following link, but the latter was completed about a month later, and it contains a couple of upgrades. Part of the fun for me is turning out a piece - furniture or tools - that gives pleasure to the user (its easy to please the neighbours. It is much harder to please my wife! :) ). And part of the fun is coming up with improvements.
Link to: Shooting for Perfection I did not post it here before as I was sure that the forum were probably tired of seeing my tools and, especially, shooting boards.
I know that this (second) board is going to be used.
Regards from Perth
Derek
