Hi folks,
A number of you had expressed an interest in seeing the non-traditional woodworking that I do, wooden sailing ship modelling. I have loaded a few photos at this site for your enjoyment. I hope you like them.

Thanks Michael, it's a great hobby.

Sheesh Bob, makes my stuff look like it was done with a chainsaw and sledgehammer! Beautiful work.
Once in a while I feel like using a sledgehammer, but the feeling usually passes! Thank you for the compliment, I'm glad you like them.

I still don't understand how you get them into the bottles.
Sorry Rob, but these don't go into bottles. Just into a glass case to protect them from dust and little fingers.

Unbelievable!!! I could not imagine working on something for three years! Very nice work! df
Some patience and a lot of perseverance to see it completed. When ever I get bogged down, I'll do something quick and easy to get my "fix" for satisfaction, perhaps a half model, they only take a month to do.
Glad you like them, thank you.

Like them ? I'm very impressed. Inspired even

SB,
Very impressive indeed - I like the Celtic knot, that gets me thinking ...
Anyway, I assume you have read the Patrick O'Brian books? I recently also got them as audio books, and it has entirely changed my city driving experience. Traffic jammed? Just means another few minutes I get to be transported.
Indeed, I'll recommend these books/CDs to all of y'all - my level of general interest in British Naval History is pretty much zero, but these are so well written, so detailed and fascinating, that I (and all my siblings) 'sailed' through all 18 volumes with absolute glee. The recent movie 'Master and Commander' was drawn from two of these books.
If you'd be inclined to try them (and haven't already), be sure to get the editions that are read by Patrick Tull. There is someone else who has read at least a couple of these, and he's terrible.
Besides, SB, you'd surely get a lot more from them than I can - when they lose their 'foretopgallant mast' (or the like) to some French 9-pounder, you know what, and where, that is!

Hi Clay,
Glad you like the models, Celtic Knot and O'Brien! Yes, I've read all his work but he's not my favorite author, Alexander Kent, Julian Stockwin Dudley Pope are much more my style. Easier to read.
Those Celtic Knots are really something, I'm hooked on carving them in all sorts of designs. You can use them in all kinds of situations and I'm just beginning to see the possibilities. There are some great books or downloads you can get for designs.
Have fun,
