Hi Folks, I would love to learn to carve signs and the like as opposed to figure carving and could use your advice on a good beginner set of carving tools and books for the beginner.
I have a budget of $100.00 or so which, I know, won’t get a super premium set but I don’t think that’s necessary right now.. I would like to carve designs for frame and panel doors and address signs using a computer generated template technique since my drawing skills are not the best.
Any help on the subject would be greatly appreciated such as which specific carving chisels/gouges to look at.
Thanks, Brian.

Thanks Chris, A lot of good info. I also like the advice given a litle below that of picking a project and just purchasing the tools to complete that particular project. Make sense.
I will look for the Butz book as well. Sounds like it is aimed at folks like me. Straight forward and progressive for the beginner.

It describes many people in my life at times...including myself. Glad you enjoyed it.
