I am looking at 6×48 belt and disk sander combos. I had a craftsman I was happy with but it died. Any feed back would be greatly appreciated. I have read several reviews on delta that were very negative. Jet reviews were positive. Any brand comments would be appreciated.

I have had a 6 X 48" C'man sander for about 25 years and have got lots of use out of it. The only maintenance mine has ever needed in all these years has been belt replacements. In fact, it is ready for a new belt now. I am curious how could it become worn beyond reasonable repair. It seems to be a very simple machine and easy to repair, if necessary.
If you live anywhere near Canada, you can get a great price on this in us dollars. Tariffs are 2 to 3 percent.

I have a ten year old Delta. I have no negative comments about it. It just keeps on spinning.
I have the grizzly version $160 plus $30 for shipping it works well. Good quailty.

Seems like this is the month for Craftsman sanders to go belly-up or become obsolete! I'll ask you the same question I asked another Craftsman owner -- what are you going to do with the old one? I'm looking for an extra table for mine, so if you're going to dump it, please LMK. I can provide my model number and a pic and specs for the table, and we could see if they match up.
I'm also lacking an owner's manual, though so far that's no big deal. Good luck in your search for a new sander!

If a photocopy of the owners' manual would suffice, let me know your mod. # and I will check and see if mine is the same.
thiggy, thanks for the offer! My model # is 113.225831 I suspect many Craftsman 6"/9" combo unit models have a lot of instructions in common. If you reply to this via the email option, I'll send you my mailing address. Thanks again! Now if I can just find someone with a dead sander and a live table, LOL.
to "All" -- was just thinking a few minutes ago how much I love having this sander unit. Talk about a time-saver! And, I figured out how to position the hard-floor attachment for my giant indoor/outdoor vac so it sits in just the right place at the end of the belt to suck in most of the sawdust. What a joy!

I have had a Harbor Freight 6X48 for about 10 years and have had no problems with it. I just bought a Grizzly 6X48 and I like it alot better. More power and I love the quick change feature.
Another brand to consider is Fisch. Don't see a lot written about them in this forum. I bought one at our recent WW show last month and am satisfied with it. I don't do commercial work so it's not put to a lot of stress, though.
There's a bit more vibration than the comporable Delta I've used in the past but not anything I can't live with. Look back through the archives for my post with a more thorough description of the machine right after getting it set up. The price is quite competitive with Jet, etc. but more than Grizzley/Harbor Freight.
