I was at Rockler today and saw that their $30 4″ double square was on sale for $9.97 so I bought one. I already have a Starrett 4″ double square so I took the time to compare the two. I find the ruler marks equally easy to read. Both squares are extremely accurate and easy to use. The ruler and head on the Rockler version is slightly large than the Starrett. Both are outstanding tools, but the Rockler is a bargain at $10. It is a well made tool that will last a lifetime for ten bucks.
This is a great tool for marking out joints. Its one of those tools you use constantly. The fit, finish, and function are great, especially at $10.00.
And no, I don’t work for Rockler, I just wanted to pass on what I consider to be a great deal on a needed tool.

And no, I don't work for Rockler, OR Woodcraft... OR hate either!
Rockler may be a bit more expensive on most things but not by that much...My experiences with Woodcraft. NO I DO NOT HATE THEM!
A sale at Rocker, I can drive to and almost always get what was on sale. Not always if I arrive very late! My local Woodcraft store.. A bit more out of the way.. They are always out of them... Specials!
Guess only one or two in the store to begin with??? And I was first in line?
Folks, don't get yer knickers all in a twist but I just looked a Rockler on line and they are in a no stock available status. I called CS and a sweet lady said that they were NOT on store sale but were available at the walk in stores . The web site said $34.99 so I think that she got it backwards. She was not allowed to back order.
Rockler had the Jet clamp set(2 each of the 24" and 40" plus dogs) as a walk in sale only last year AND NO STOCK so I escalated up to a very senior supervisor who agreed to send me 4 sets-60 days later two sets showed up and they said sorry it's the most that they were allowed.
Just another bummer from Rockler.
Paddy.
My local Rockler did not have any available when I asked about them, as they had sold out earlier that day. But they let me get one at the $10 price, and called me a few days later when it came in.
Alan, you will enjoy it. I have a 3" that I picked up in Europe 25 years ago that I use for small joints, it was German made and dead on square. I was looking for one a little larger for when you don't need the big 12" or 18" combination square and think I like the 6" LV I just saw but it's $36. Maybe Santa will put one in my stocking. Paddy
Paddydahat...
Maybe not what you 'want' but all you really need is a good set of... YES, Plastic triangles from a Art Supplier.. They usually have metal ones also.
Get a bunch of them in different sizes and make a wooden block or something to keep them from tipping over in use (unless you have more that two hands).
They are inexpensive, cheep, and accurate. Does not hurt to take along a 'true' square to check the set before you buy them.
Never have found a bad one from the Helix brand name. Yes I believe they are made in China?
Will, then I would have three sets??? Paddy
Paddydahat,
I just got back form our Rockler store in Cambridge, MA. The 4" double square is no linger on sale. However, it will be available again for $9.99 on the 20,21 of December...he showed me the flyer.
