For 30 years I’ve been drooling over this house wondering “What if …” Well it came on the market. It was built in the peak of the period around the same time that a couple of Green and Green’s were built in Long Beach, Ca. At a cool $1.3 mil with $500k down I just need to finance $800k. At 6% that’s only $4010 a month for only a 100 years. I think I’ll buy some Lotto tickets this week and hope for the best. If I win I’ll buy it a spend the rest of my days just taking care of all that gorgeous woodwork. If I can’t have it, maybe one of you can. I’d love to come by for the occaisional BBQ, hell I’ll even bring the food, beer and do the cooking.

John,
Sure beats the heck out of a double-wide in Compton!

John,
The craftsman style does not appeal to me..usually too dark inside..but I do love the woodwork and will contribute to the BBQ. If you ever get a chance to visit Grand Rapids, MI...the hotels there will leave you speechless with the wood and craftsmanship...
I agree they do tend to be dark, but I could put up with it. The large eaves were designed to provide shade for natural cooling since they didn't have A/C in those days.John O'Connell - JKO Handcrafted Woodworking

For the ultimat craftsman house, got to http://www.gamblehouse.org. Fortunately, it's not for sale.
Been there (the house) 3 times so far. They have The Craftsman Weekend in Pasadena every year. In fact it was just a couple of weeks ago but I didn't make it this year. Lot's of the homes in the area are opened up for tours. A couple of years ago the Blacker house was opened up. It was pretty much restored but the furniture reproductions weren't there yet. It was even more awesome than the Gamble if you can believe that. It originally sat on 5 acres with several out buildings, including a small lake. I've got a couple of Randell Mackinson's G&G coffee table books and I never get tired of looking at them. It's really too bad that the only FLW homes in LA are from his decorative concrete period, which I just can't warm up to. Much prefer the prarie style FLW started where the Green's left off. Some day I have to get to Oak Park.
