Has anyone had hands-on experience with the 15″ Grizzly (GO453) thickness planer? My quantities won’t be huge, but very tough woods. The Griz has given me the best and worst tools in my shop, so any info might calm me down. The thing sure is priced nicely, but I’ve been down that road, too: You only really start paying for it once you turn it on.

I purchased a Griz 15" planer about 15 years ago and it is much better hands down than the 13" Delta that we have at work. It isn't as noisy as the delta and seems to cut better. I cut walnut, birch, oak and have planed many other hardwoods and other varieties without any problems.
I bought the 15" Griz planer a couple months ago. Other than getting around to adjust the feed roller pressure, I am pleased. Yes, it can chew through wood with no sweat. The height guage is very crude, so have a tape or caliper nearby. I really like the built in casters. Nice solid, heavy machine. I replaced a Delta 13 1/2 benchtop. Wish I still had that, so I could give a final pass with that machine, as it left a better finish cut.(albeit, very minimum cut)

Do these planers not have two feed speeds so that you could run the final pass with more cuts per inch?
Polarsea1,
It has a 16 & 30 fpm feed rate options. Its just that the Delta left a super smooth finish with no touch up needed 90 % of the time. The Griz leaves a nice finish, but I definately have to go over with a scraper card or a palm sander to achiveve a nice smooth finish. I dont know why the difference, but seeing is believing in my case.
