Any one have experience with either of these machines:
Grizzly 15 inch wide belt sander: http://www.grizzly.com/products/item.cfm?ItemNumber=G9983
Sunhill 15 inch wide belt sander: http://www.sunhillmachinery.com/WideBeltSanders%20SDS%2015.htm
I posted this a while ago, i was hoping someone might have some recent experience with either of these machines. I also did an advanced search for Wide Belt Sander and am trying to get a little more from users of either machine. I have am geting ready to building our new house and will be doing all of the cabinetry and milling all of our trim, so i feel this should be put to good use.

You might try a more proactive approach such as calling the companies and getting some names of endusers. Certainly a lot faster than waiting for someone to read your post. It's how we did it in the days before the net and some things will never go out of practice.
dude, havent i seen responses like this from you before??
the internet is putting people in touch that dont live near each other..
maybe this guy is in a rural area where no one else has a few thousand dollars for a sander.
He just doing some research. I think you may want to wait a few minutes each time before you respond to posts.. and if what you are thinking could be taken by others as rude consider reading on and saving your posts for things that you can have positive input on.
thanks.
On the other hand there maybe someone down the street from him who has such a sander who does not surf the net or read this forum. I do this kind of research for a living on a daily basis so I don't see why giving another option as rude?
Rick,
I've called on end users from Grizzly before and gotten some people on the phone that told me how much they love the machine(s). I appreciated Grizzly allowing me to do that, but I was concerned that the names and numbers given to me by Grizzly were only those customers that were satisfied, not the ones that complained.
Anyway, the only way I think your method would work is if someone near had the same machine in question and was willing to allow the purchaser to see it and maybe even use it. I think calling numbers from a national list provided by the manufacturer could be bad.Molten
I understand your point but as I said it does allow the possibility of finding someone perhaps within driving distance so one can see the machine in person. By the same token there have been instances of manufacturers reps using the web with aliases to put down a competitors product under the guise of a so called anonymous unbiased poster so it can work both ways. There's still a lot of people and info not on the web and as a purchasing agent/tech I try to utilize as many options as possible to get answers as quickly as I can.
I have had the Sunhill 15" sander for three years or so now and am entirely pleased. I think the Grizzly might have several minor improvements over the Sunhill. I like the way Grizzly has organized the stop and run buttons because I find myself standing on the open side a lot and the controls on the Sunhill are on the opposite side. Also I think the Grizzley comes with a safety bar on the feed table and includes a adjustable bar for support of pieces wider than 15". I had a drum sander before and this is a whole lot better even though it is not as wide because it is so easy to change belts. I'm sure either will do a great job.
Thanks for the info, i am leaning towards the grizzly for the reasons you stated. It also looks like the grizzly has a platten that can be used in three positions and the Sunhill does not have a platten. Again thanks for the feed back.
