I’m looking for a floor standing 12″ (or so) disk/6″X48″ belt sanding machine. I have access to both Deltas and Jets in local showrooms. I’d really like to see the machine in person before buying one, but if there’s a drastic difference in price I’d consider buying another brand based on recommendations. Are there any other machines in this category that I should be considering?
Thanks

Hey Kurt,
Mine is not exactly to your specs (depending on what 'or so' means) but I have the Grizzly 9 in. disk/6x48 belt. Man I love that tool, one of the best buys I've ever made. That thing can eat some wood and I've been known to work some plastic and metal with it too (when ya gotta ya gotta). $179 plus shipping when I bought about 12 years ago, I haven't checked the current price.
The belt tension adjustment is alittle underdesigned and crude but dealable. The disk table was not finely machined, it had significant machine sprial marks/grooves. ROS tuned that up some. The miter gauge is a cheap cast aluminum toy and the backstop for the belt is undersized and crude. Well built and weighted right, vibrations are no problem.
Enjoy, Roy
If you have a Rockler woodworking shop near you, they handle the Fisch line of tools. They 12/6x48 machine is what I bought at a recent ww show - I'm not a pro woodworker by any means and it doesn't get daily hard use. But it can hog wood when you need it to.
The tables are nicely finished, the adjustments are reasonably easy to .... adjust. Belt changing is pretty easy. Haven't had to replace the disk yet so can't speak to that. There's perhaps more vibration than a high end machine would produce but nothing that's caused me any concern to date. Two dust ports (4") one under the belt and one under the disk. Nice heavy gauge metal cabinet. 110v/1hp motor which really sucks the juice on startup.
Plus it's a really, really nice blue color (grin)
