Editor's Review: Bench Chisels

This chisel is a diamond in the rough. Its back was slightly concave along its length, but this lapped out without much trouble. The end of the handle must be mushroomed over to set the hoop in place, so plan on 30 minutes per chisel for this task. The finish on the handle was a bit rough, but fine sandpaper and steel wool polished it in a minute or two. In use, the tool performed admirably, its edge held up nicely, and at $14, it is a real bargain.

I bought two of these and have been very pleased. They sharpen up nicely and hold an edge well even when used for chopping which they excel at.

I purchased this chisel set about a year ago. The handles did require some work (steel wool and wax worked for mine). I polished the backs and sharpened them with ease. They appear to be harder and hold a edge better then my old Stanley's. I like the look and feel of the Japanese style chisels but was not willing to pay the price. When I found this set at Grizzly for about $140.00 ,I reluctantly purchased them and have become completely satisfied. PS these chisels come in metric sizes that are close to their inch equivalents
