This is my second submission of a Student Desk. I have been an amateur woodworker for about 30 years. Woodworking for me is a hobby. All my work is made for my children, grand-children as well as my wife and I. I use Canvas™ on my Macintosh to make the drawings and establish measurements prior to undertaking any of my projects. This Cherry and Maple “Student Desk” was made for my daughter. The drawer buttons and other decorative are in Purpleheart. Most of the furniture I make is designed along the same general lines and concepts. This one was completed yesterday, October 5th.

The Delta was another model that you can locate close to a wall. It employs dual articulating arms that save space while yielding good, wide cuts provided you use good technique. The saw is tied for the second-shortest overall footprint. The Delta’s ergonomics were a treat too. Thanks to convenient placement and ease of use, the locks for the miter and bevel stops were superb. Its LED results in a nice, accurate shadow. The dust collection was just slightly lower than the Makita’s, but still quality for a miter saw.
Especially considering the price, among the lowest of the bunch, the Ridgid R4222 has impressive adjustability. It has the largest crosscut capacity of all the saws. And the miter and bevel settings have the largest range of travel, and a bevy of detents. However, the power switch is clumsy, a bad design especially for lefties. The adjusters are either hard to use or hard to reach. Plus, its slider needs the most room out of any of the saws.
Regardless of the board’s grain, this jointer produced excellent results. Its fence was totally flat, worked smoothly, and locked well, staying in place even after jointing multiple edges. Getting the fence to 90° was very easy, but the 90° stop was a little tricky to set and the fence did not go back to square when using it. For those who would use it, there is also a digital depth-of-cut scale.
Sorry for the late reply. The purpleheart does indeed change to brownish when worked, but returns to its purple color quite fast, especially when finish is applied.

With its graceful curves, cabriole legs, and ornamental back splat, a Queen Anne side chair is a bucket list build for many woodworkers. Dan Faia had a very specific Queen…

I really enjoy this design. I like how the corner posts/top are a lighter/contrasting wood to the main wood used for construction.
Did you have any trouble with the purpleheart browning after you machined the pulls? If so, did exposure to light bring back the purple ?
Thanks fo sharing.
lovely design and execution.
Thank you SpartyBill,

Just a note about purpleheart browing when you work it. I place it in the sun for one to two hours.......the purple comes right back.
As for this project, WONDERFUL, REALLY.
